Abstract:
Trimethylolethane (TME) is an important chemical intermediate and its solid-liquid equilibrium data is the basis for separation and purification. The solubility of trimethylolethane in methanol, ethanol,
n-propanol, isopropanol and dioxane were measured by an equilibrium method at 288.15~318.15 K. The results show that the solubility of TME in the above five solvents increases with the increase of temperature. TME has the highest solubility in methanol and the lowest in dioxane. The modified Apelblat equation and the
λh equation were selected to correlate the experimental data, and the results show that the calculated values agree well with the experimental data. The experimental solubility data and their correlation equation can provide essential data for the synthesis and purification of TME.
